12/3/2003
The Marshall men's basketball team (1-2) returns to the road to play the Radford Highlanders (3-2) Thursday evening in the Dedmon Center. The Thundering Herd hit the court for the third time in six days.
Radford is currently 3-2 on the season, with their most recent result being an 83-69 loss to American University on December 2nd. Whit Holcomb-Faye leads the Highlanders in scoring, averaging 21.8 points per contest.
Marshall has won three consecutive games and leads the all-time series with the Highlanders, 7-1. The last meeting came last season, when the Herd knocked off Radford, 90-65, in Huntington. Radford?s only win in the series came in the 1998-99 season with a 73-65 victory at the Dedmon Center.
In the Herd's last time out, they battled Kentucky for 40 hard minutes before falling to the Wildcats, 89-76, at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. Marshall trailed by only four points, 64-60, with 11 minutes to go, but UK took advantage of Marshall turnovers to piece together a 9-2 run that eventually did in the Herd. Ronny Dawn, from nearby Fort Thomas, Ky., scored 23 points, 21 of which came on seven three-point buckets. Dawn?s seven threes tied a Kentucky opponent?s record for three-pointers made in a game.
Dawn leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.7 points per game. Marvin Black is second with 11.3 points per contest.
