12/7/2003

OXFORD, Ohio - The Marshall University Women's Swimming and Diving team finished in 5th place (738.50) out of 11 teams this weekend at the Miami Invitational.

Leading the Herd was sophomore Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) who finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.93) setting a new personal best and a new Marshall record. Kuurto also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (51.53).

"Milla continued her outstanding performance today," said Marshall University Head Coach Leonard Kraus, "we're going to continue to watch her times and see where we are come championship time."

The 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Kuurto, junior Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) freshmen Cara Davison (Chesterton, Ind.), and Emily Edmonson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) placed fourth (3:37.26).

"This was a great meet to be a part of," said Kraus, "it gave us the opportunity to get comfortable with the pool, our hotel, and the format." The Mid-American Conference Championships will be held in Oxford.
