Women's Tennis Hosts Miami-Ohio to Start Conference Play

Huntington, W.Va.-After a 2002 Mid-American Conference tournament championship and a NCAA Tournament appearance, the Marshall University women?s tennis team begins their quest for a second straight title when they open conference play against Miami (Ohio) on Friday, February 28, at 1:00 p.m. at the Huntington Tennis Club.

Marshall enters the contest with a record of 3-5 while Miami (Ohio) begins conference play with a record of 3-4. Last season, the Thundering Herd defeated the Redhawks 6-1 in Oxford, Ohio.

The Thundering Herd are led by the doubles tandem of Jessica Johnson and Alice Sukner. In the latest poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the duo is ranked 13th in the country.

The match marks the first action for the Marshall women?s tennis team in three weeks. In their last match, Marshall defeated Middle Tennessee State 4-3. Following the match with Miami (Ohio), MU will return to action on Saturday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m. against the University of Cincinnati in Huntington, W.Va.
