Marshall Diver Mulholland to Compete at Zone Championships

3/14/2003

MU's Casey Mulholland qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships in only her fifth collegiate diving meet, Jan. 18 versus Ball State.

OXFORD, Ohio -- Marshall University diver Casey Mulholland (Stone Mountain, Ga.) will take to the boards this weekend at the NCAA Zone Championships on the campus of Miami (OH) University. The 3-meter competition commences on Friday followed by Saturday's 1-meter portion.

Mulholland is one of five Mid-American Conference representatives at the two day event.
In addition to the MAC, the Zone Championships host conferences such as the Big Ten and Horizon.

"It is a big feat to qualify for this meet as a freshman," diving coach Clifton Waterbury said. "Casey has surpassed all of the goals we set in the pre-season."

The top five finishers from the meet will move on to the NCAA Championships.

Mulholland's exceptional first season with the Thundering Herd is an indication of the bright future of the Herd's lone diver in 2002-03.

"She (Mulholland) carries a 4.0 GPA and has had a season beyond our expectations," Waterbury added, "which says a lot about her strong work ethic."
