Men's Basketball Falls at Akron, 79-71

AKRON, Ohio - Darryl Peterson scored 22 points to lead the University of Akron to a 79-71 win over Marshall University in Mid-American Conference men?s basketball action Wednesday.

Peterson hit eight of eleven shots from the floor, including three of four three-pointers, to pace the Zips. John Hollingsworth added 22, while Derrick Tarver and Andy Hipsher chipped in with 11 and 13 points, respectively for Akron (14-12 overall, 9-8 MAC).

Marshall (12-14, 8-9 MAC) was led by David Anderson?s career-high 19 points, 10 of which came on slam dunks. A.W. Hamilton also added a career-high 15 points in the losing effort.

Both teams shot 54% from the floor, however Akron managed to limit Marshall?s leading scorer, Ronald Blackshear, to only six points. Akron also scored 26 points off of 21 Marshall turnovers.

Marshall now returns home to close out the regular season on Saturday versus Miami. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center.
