Blackshear Declares for NBA Draft

4/3/2003

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum announced today that Thundering Herd junior guard Ronald Blackshear has withdrawn from school and will declare for the NBA draft, forgoing his senior season.

?We wish Ronald nothing but the best,? Marcum said. ?He had a fine career here and we hope that he reaches his goal.?

Blackshear, a six-foot-five shooting guard from Camilla, Ga., led Marshall in scoring with 20.3 points per game this season and converted 111 of 125 free throw attempts (88.8%) en route to earning second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors. Blackshear finishes his Marshall career with exactly 1,000 points in 50 games after transferring from Temple University in 2001-02.

Blackshear will be remembered as one of the top three-point shooters in Marshall history. He connected on 186 of 458 three-point attempts in his career (.406) and tied the national record for consecutive three-pointers made in a game by hitting 11 straight in a win at Akron on March 1, 2002. Blackshear went on to net 14 total three-point goals in that game, the second highest single game total in NCAA Division I history. Blackshear?s 186 career three-pointers rank fourth all-time in school history.

?Ronald certainly made a positive impact on our program we wish him well in the NBA Draft,? Head Coach Greg White said. ?Ronald has an opportunity to become our second player in as many years to go in the NBA draft and that is something we are all very proud of.?
