Women's Soccer Celebrates First Annual Alumni Contest

5/3/2003

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall University?s women?s soccer team held its first annual spring alumni game on Sunday April 27th on Sam Hood Field. The Marshall squad took the narrow 2-1 victory over the alumni.

?It was great to get the opportunity to have so many players and their parents back at Marshall and to see their excitement for the program again,? first year head coach Chris Kane said. ?We were able to get together and enjoy some fun competition and we look forward to establishing many new traditions here.?

The contest opened up with 2003 graduate Lindsey Jayjack putting the alumni squad on top 1-0 in the first half. The alumni held the slim lead until early in the second half when sophomore Jamie Gruber (Hudson, Ohio) tied the score at one. Senior Danielle Lowther (Grand Haven, Mich.) then came through with the game winning goal to give the MU squad the 2-1 edge.

Marshall?s family, friends, alumni and supporters gathered for a cookout to celebrate a new era in the young program. The squad will kick off its season in an exhibition contest against the Mountaineers of West Virginia University as everyone returns to campus on August 20th at 7:00 p.m. in Morgantown.
