Marshall Track Teams Both Place Second At Bearcat Classic

Stephanie Eastman added her name to the Marshall track and field record books again Saturday. Eastman broke the school record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:12.39.

CINCINNATI, Ohio?The Marshall University track and field teams continued to gain momentum before the Mid-American Conference Championships in two weeks. The men?s and women?s teams both placed second at the Bearcat Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio Saturday, recording a total nine first, 12 second and three third place finishes.

Stephanie Eastman broke a school record in the 800 meter run with her first place finishing time of 2:12.39. Misha Piper took first place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes. Sarah Corley took first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with her time of 11:23.70. The women?s 4x400 meter relay team also took first place in 3:54.71. Andrea Perry took home second place finishes in the 200 meter dash and 100 meter hurdles, placed fourth in the high jump and fifth in the 100 meter dash.

Standout Erin Compton took home first place honors in the discus and hammer throws. Compton threw the discus 159-feet-03 inches and the hammer 173-11, both passing the NCAA Regional mark. Compton racked up her 10th career discus title and has claimed 6-of-7 discus titles this season. Her win in the hammer gives her 15 total career victories.
Compton has qualified in both the hammer throw and discus for the NCAA East Regionals.

For the men, John Ferguson won the men?s long jump with a distance of 23-feet-06.25 inches. James Barr gave the Marshall men their only other top finish of the day, winning the 400 meter dash in 48.50.

The Herd?s second place finishers were; Mike Jones (800m), Nimal Bailey (400m-hurdles), the men?s 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams, Terry Stahl (shot put) and Zach Helm (hammer throw).

Arthur West, Ferguson, Wilbur Hargrove and Mark Littlejohn took 4th through 7th in the men?s 100 meter dash. Littlejohn also took fifth in the men?s 200 meter dash.

The Marshall track and field teams have one more tune up before the MAC Championships. The Herd athletes will travel to Bloomington, Ind. Saturday for the Indiana Invitational.
