5/5/2003
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University Head Basketball Coach Greg White announced today that assistant coach Kevin Keatts has accepted the head coaching position for post-graduate basketball at Hargrave Military Academy.
?I am thrilled for Kevin,? White said. ?Kevin was offered a great opportunity that he could not pass up, and I am grateful for everything he has done for our program and for the friendship we have. There is no doubt that Kevin is going to be successful.?
Keatts, 30, has spent the last two seasons handling a variety of roles as an assistant at Marshall. His duties with the Thundering Herd have included recruiting, scouting, and on-floor coaching.
?I was offered an unbelievable opportunity that I could not turn down,? Keatts said. ?I?m excited about it, but at the same time I am really going to miss the Marshall basketball family. Coach White gave me a great opportunity and I have enjoyed working for him and being a part of this program.?
Keatts, a native of Lynchburg, Va., came to Marshall after a two-year stay as head coach at the Chatham, Va., prep school. Keatts led Hargrave squads to a combined 47-4 recording during his tenure, including a school-record mark of 27-1 during the 2000-2001 campaign. Keatts also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Hargrave before being promoted to head coach in 1999. During his four seasons at Hargrave, Keatts coached eight players who were nominated for the McDonald?s All-America game. He also coached current Marshall standouts David Anderson and A.W. Hamilton.
