Swim Team Hosts Awards Banquet

Members of the MU swimming and diving team at the first ever awards banquet held last Saturday.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall University swimming and diving team held its first ever awards banquet on Saturday at the Thundering Herd Hall of Fame Cafe.

Head coach Leonard Kraus announced that Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) was given the MVP/Leadership Award as well as the High Point Award for her phenomenal performance in the pool during the 2002-03 season. The freshman was named to the first team All-Mid-American Conference and held the top MAC time in the 100-yard butterfly for much of the season.

Emily Moe (Rockford, Mich.) was selected for the Spirit Award along with Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) and Liisa Raty (Espoo, Finland) who were the recipients of the captains awards.

Nilsson and Raty were also named team captains for the upcoming 2003-04 season.

The Thundering Herd finished its first season of competition, since a one-year stint in 1974, with a 5-9 record.
