Purdue beats Marshall in Boilermaker Invitational Opener
8/30/2003
WEST LAFAYETTE, IN -- The Marshall women's soccer team fell to 25th ranked Purdue, 3-0 Saturday morning.
Purdue scored two goals on a sloppy, rain-soaked field in the first 16 minutes and never looked back.
"I was disappointed about how we started," Head Coach Chris Kane said. "But we came out as a whole different team in the second half.
"We were more aggressive, more organized and just showed a completely different physical presence on the field."
Marshall leaned on the steady play of goalie Ashleigh Woods. Woods had 11 saves on the day.
"I was very happy with the play of Ellerie (Karl), Allison (Jayjack) and Ashleigh (Woods)," Kane said. "It could have been a whole lot worse."
Marshall was held to one shot on the day versus Purdue's 22.
"We will learn from it and go on to Drake tomorrow," Kane said. "The experience will only help us in our goal at winning the MAC."
The Herd will take on Drake University at 1 p.m. (central time) in West Lafayette.
