Drake Takes Down Herd, Claims Boilermaker Invitational Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN -- The superior play of senior midfielder Ellerie Karl (Oakwood, OH) and junior goalkeeper Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, NY) was not enough on a rain soaked Sunday afternoon as the Herd took its second loss of the season 1-0, to Drake University.
The win helped Drake claim the invitational crown after Purdue and Eastern Michigan tied 2-2 later in the day.
"We just really need to start playing like a team instead of individuals," head coach Chris Kane said. "We completely lacked communication."
Drake scored in the 75th minute off a penalty kick.
Kane said he was impressed by the play of Karl and Woods.
"Ellerie and Ashleigh played well," Kane said. "They definitely kept us in the game."
Karl said the Herd simply has to look forward.
"We are looking at Dayton...the weekend is done and over with," Karl said. "We did some things well but I think we just need to get on the same page as a team."
The Herd will look for their first win of the season when they take on the Flyers of the University of Dayton in Dayton on September 5.
That game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
