Akron Tops Herd In Women's Soccer

Cara Hemmerich |
HUNTINGTON, WV-- Sometimes it only takes one.
That was the story of Marshall Women's Soccer this weekend as they kicked off their Mid-American Conference season.
Akron dropped Marshall 1-0 on Sunday afternoon resembling a similar one goal loss on Friday to MAC foe Kent State.
"We just do not have a goal scorer," Head Coach Chris Kane said. "We seem to only have that one player each game that steps up.
Today that player was Cara (Hemmerich)."
Hemmerich, along with the rest of the Marshall offense, had their opportunities, posting 12 shots.
But it was Akron goalie Crystal Tabor that had six saves on the day, holding Marshall scoreless for the sixth straight contest.
"There just seems to be no urgency in our game," Kane said. "We played with a whole lot of heart but just didn't get it done."
MAC save leader Ashleigh Woods had another fine day with 8 saves in 90 minutes of play.
The Herd will take a break from conference play when they invite Wright State University to Sam Hood Field on Friday, September 19.
That game is set to begin at 7 p.m. and is free to the public.
The game will also be broadcast on WMUL and can be heard on the world wide web at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
