HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The rain poured off and on and so did the offense on both sides of the field Friday night.
The rain wasn't enough to drench the field nor was the offense potent enough to score a goal as Marshall and Wright State remained deadlocked after 120 minutes at 0-0.
"We've got to take some positives out of this tonight," head coach Chris Kane said. "I'll take a tie. It feels a whole lot better than a loss."
The Herd outshot the Raiders 15-11.
With MAC save leader Ashleigh Woods sidelined with a broken finger, it was sophomore Jen Short(Mentor, OH) who stepped in front of the net.
And Short's first game at the goal was anything but short.
Serving as goalie for the first time since she was ten years old, Short made six saves without giving up a goal in the 120 minute contest.
"Shorty really stepped up for us...she really came up through for us," Kane said. "She had two days of training.
I think her presence really gave us a lift."
Kane is hoping the tie will give the Herd some momentum heading into their upcoming MAC stretch.
"We outplayed them tonight," Kane said. "We created a lot of opportunities and I am hoping we step it up another notch for Ohio and next weekend as well."
The loss puts Marshall at 0-6-1 on the season. Wright State leaves Huntington 2-3-1.
Marshall travels to Ohio University Sunday. The game is set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
