Women's Soccer Claims First Win Against Northern Illinois

DeKalb, Ill. - The Marshall University women's soccer team got their first win of the year against the Northern Illinois Huskies, 3-0 in MAC women's soccer action Friday.

Marshall (1-7-1 Overall, 1-3-0 MAC) got off to a quick start when Cara Hemmerich (Dublin, Ohio) scored just over a minute into the game. Danielle Lowther (Grand Haven, MI) added another goal at the 35:44 mark. Jaime Gruber (Hudson, OH) completed the scoring for The Herd with a goal at the 76 minute mark.

Kai Nordness (Burnsville, Minn.) recorded a shutout for Marshall, making four saves.

The loss dropped Northern Illinois to 1-7-0 overall and 0-4-0 in the MAC.

Marshall Head Coach Chris Kane was happy with the win. "We finally played together as a team. We played the whole game. It was great to get this win," Kane said, "Kai also did a great job to keep us in the game."

The team now heads to Western Michigan on Sunday where they will face the Broncos at 12:00 p.m. Their next home game will take place on Friday, October 3 at Sam Hood Field when they face Buffalo.
