- Marshall GameNotes
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Marshall men's basketball team (5-6, 2-2 MAC) takes on the Toledo Rockets (9-3, 3-1) Wednesday night at Savage Hall. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Toledo enters Wednesday?s game with a 9-3 overall record, 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets have posted MAC wins over Ohio on the road and Buffalo and Central Michigan at home in Savage Hall. UT?s lone loss is at Ball State on January 10th. They are led in scoring by Keith Triplett, an All-MAC West Division preseason selection, who averages 19.8 points per contest. The Rockets are a dangerous team from the perimeter, shooting 42.7% (99-232) from beyond the arc, while limiting their opponents to only a 34.1 (70-205) percentage.
In Marshall's last time out, The Herd dropped their second consecutive conference game on January 12th to Western Michigan, 88-65. The Herd took a 25-24 lead at the 7:54 mark in the first half, and looked to be in position to make a run at the Broncos. However, Western Michigan immediately responded, scoring 21 of the game's next 24 points to break open the game. Marvin Black led the Thundering Herd with 11 points, all of which came in the first half. A.W. Hamilton was the only other Marshall player in double-figures with ten points.
Toledo holds a 33-22 all-time lead in the career series between the two schools, although the Thundering Herd beat the Rockets last season in Huntington, 79-58. Since Marshall reentered the Mid-American Conference in 1997-98, the Herd owns a 4-3 advantage in the series, but has lost three out of four games at Savage Hall. Marshall?s lone win in Toledo was during the 1999-00 season, when the Herd knocked off the Rockets, 91-90.
