- Box Score
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Western Michigan rolled past Marshall 96-72 on Wednesday night behind a 30-point, 15-rebound performance from forward Lori Crisman in a Mid-American Conference women?s basketball contest at the Cam Henderson Center.
Crisman?s 30 points set a career-high for the lone Bronco senior on a 12-of-18 effort from the floor. Western Michigan (8-6, 3-0 MAC) also received 20 points from the league?s leading scorer, junior Casey Rost.
Marshall (10-4, 2-2 MAC) was out-rebounded for the first time this season, 43-35, and allowed a season-high 96 points. The Thundering Herd fell behind 31-11 at the midway point of the first half and could not seize any momentum the entire night as the Broncos countered any MU charge.
The defending MAC champions grabbed their largest lead of the night, 36 points, at the 16 minute mark of the second half on a Crisman layup.
WMU tied a Marshall opponent-high with its 52.3 percent shooting (34-of-65), while the Herd shot at a 41.1 percent clip on 30-of-73 from the field.
?We couldn?t get anything going offensively and we couldn?t stop them defensively,? Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick said. ?We lost a little composure when they were scoring at will and we couldn?t pull ourselves back together.?
WMU paraded to the free-throw line all night, sinking 23-of-30 attempts while Marshall was just 9-of-14 from the charity stripe.
Marshall?s Modupe Ishola (Washington, D.C.) scored a team-high 13 points and posted a career-high eight rebounds. Kim Griffin (Valdosta, Ga.) had 12 points, three steals and tied a team season-high with eight assists. Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) and Crystal Champion (Washington, D.C.) chipped in nine points apiece.
The Herd?s KaShawna Curry (Huntington, W.Va.) returned after a one-game absence due to an ankle injury. The freshman seemed to spark MU off the bench with four points in a quick second-half span, but the Broncos offset her production both times, including a seven-point run to grab a 91-63 lead with 3:50 remaining.
?This was a growing up experience,? Chadwick said. ?We have to be ready to play every game and we have to be better on Saturday.?
Marshall will challenge the University at Buffalo on Saturday from the Bulls? Alumni Arena. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
