15th Ranked Kentucky Tops Herd, 5-2

LEXINGTON, Ky.-The Marshall University women?s tennis team dropped their first match of the season to the 15th-ranked University of Kentucky Wildcats, 5-2, earlier today. Kentucky improved to 3-0 with the win.
To open the match, Marshall took UK to the wire before being edged out for the doubles point. Senior Meghan Skalsky (East Lansing, Mich.) and Junior Danielle Hock (Wiggin, England) teamed up for Marshall?s victory in doubles on the day when they defeated Kim Coventry and Christen Simpson 8-6. Senior Alice Sukner (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and junior Lille Nzudie (Douala, Cameroon) then battled Kentucky?s Lara Maurer and Joelle Schwenk to the wire before falling 9-8 in five.
In singles action Marshall was able to notch two victories, but the Wildcats proved to be too much for the Herd as they captured the other four.
Marshall will return to action January 31, when they travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on the #31 ranked cavaliers of the University of Virginia.
