MUNCIE, Ind. ? Ball State's Amy Holst scored a goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game to give the Cardinals a 1-0 win against the Marshall women?s soccer team on Friday afternoon in Mid-American Conference action at Ball State Soccer Field.

Marshall (3-6-3, 0-5-1 MAC) tallied 10 shots in the loss but was unable to convert.

?We played really well?it was just unfortunate,? head coach Chris Kane said. ?We had a few opportunities that we just didn?t capitalize on. We played with a lot of energy and this is by far our best performance as a team in any loss this season.?

BSU (6-1-4, 2-1-4 MAC) picks up its second home conference win with the other coming on Sept. 24 against Buffalo.

?Ball State has a very good team,? Kane said. ?Good teams force you to produce goals and that is exactly what they did?you have to give them a lot of credit.?

Kai Nordness (Burnsville, Minn.) filled in for an injured Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, N.Y.) and took the loss while registering six saves.

?Kai played really well,? Kane said. ?She had a hand on the goal?it just got through.?

Ball State keeper Allison Becker captured her sixth shutout of the season. BSU had 19 shots on the day.

MU will look for conference win number one when it challenges Miami (Ohio) on Sunday.

?I think we are really gelling right now,? Nordness said. ?It?s my hope we can carry it through this weekend and the rest of the season.?

The Herd travels to Oxford, Ohio for the dual with Miami (Ohio) on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
