HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? The Marshall women?s soccer team had its offensive troubles again on Friday afternoon as the Herd dropped a Mid-American Conference contest to Eastern Michigan, 2-0, at Sam Hood Field.
EMU (9-2-4, 5-2-2 MAC) picked up a goal in each half. MAC-assist leader Cyndi Mullins tallied the first goal of the contest when she netted a goal in 31st minute off an assist from Jessica Hupe. Hupe then found Kai Harris for the go-ahead score and her second assist of the game with just under thirty minutes remaining in the game.
Marshall (3-9-3, 0-8-1 MAC) was led by freshmen Katie Watson (Woodbridge, Va.) and Jenna Greenwood (Westerville, Ohio), who each had two shots in the game. The Eagles out-shot the Herd 11-6 in the contest.
Eagle keeper Nikki Allen needed to make just two saves in the game for the win. Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, N.Y.) made five stops en route to the loss for Marshall.
"I am very disappointed," head coach Chris Kane said. "We need to play smarter...you just can't win games when you put up two shots on goal."
Marshall will now turn its attention to Central Michigan. The MAC contest featuring the Herd and the Chippewas will be part of a doubleheader with the men?s team on Sunday. The women?s game is set to kickoff at noon with the men?s tilt versus Longwood beginning at 3 p.m.
Sunday?s contest will be the home finale for the Herd this season and will also be Senior Day for Marshall?s three seniors?Jessica Crawford, Ellerie Karl, and Woods.
