Buffalo Edges Women's Soccer
10/22/2004
BUFFALO, N.Y. ? The Marshall women?s soccer team was unable to capitalize on its scoring opportunities on Friday night as it fell to Buffalo, 2-1, on the road in Mid-American Conference action.
Marshall (3-11-3, 0-10-1 MAC) fell behind early when the Bulls? Ariel Korczykowski knocked in a goal off an assist from Courtney Macvie at 27:24.
Buffalo (5-11-1, 4-6-1 MAC) managed another score in the 88th minute when Lindsay Szafranski connected on a cross from the left side to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
Herd freshman Kassie Hollman (Macon, Ga.) then scored thirty seconds later on a direct kick from 15 yards out to cut the deficit within one, but MU would get no closer. The goal was her second in as many games.
?We played well in the second half,? head coach Chris Kane said. ?This was a classic example of one team capitalizing on another?s errors while the other team simply does not. We should have won this game tonight?we will come back and fix some things in practice tomorrow and be ready to come out hard on Sunday.?
MU was out-shot in the contest, 20-11. Jenna Greenwood (Westerville, Ohio) and Ellerie Karl (Oakwood, Ohio) paved the way in the shot category with three apiece for the Herd. Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, N.Y.) picked up ten saves to lead all keepers.
Marshall winds up its conference season at Kent State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Box score will be available as soon as possible.
