HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? For the second straight season, Ohio?s Tiffany Horvath scored two goals against the Marshall women?s soccer team as the Bobcats dropped the Herd, 3-0, at Sam Hood Field in Mid-American Conference action on Friday night.
Marshall (3-8-3, 0-7-1 MAC) was held to only five shots on the night due to yet another steady performance by a stingy Ohio defense. OU (7-4-2, 6-0-1 MAC) blanked the Herd for its eight consecutive shut-out of the season. The Bobcats have strung together a phenomenal 824 straight shut-out minutes.
?Ohio is a good team?they are both effective and efficient,? head coach Chris Kane said. ?You can see why they are undefeated in the league.?
Horvath picked up the first and third scores of the contest. For the first goal of the game, she sent a shot into the back of the net from the left side after receiving a pass from Lindsey Price. Price then netted a goal in the 32nd minute before Horvath picked up her second goal on the night by beating two defenders in the middle of the box to give OU the 3-0 win.
?I think we lost focus on what was working for us,? Kane said. ?Our inexperience was exploited and you just have to hope we learn from this and realize we have to play hard every single game. We have the rest of the weekend off before we get ready for Eastern Michigan because they are another tough team that is playing really well right now.?
Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, N.Y.) had three saves in the loss at keeper for the Herd while Michelle Meglaughlin made only two stops for the win.
Marshall stays home for a pair of MAC contests next weekend. The Herd battles Eastern Michigan on Oct. 15 at 3:30 p.m. before taking on Central Michigan on Oct. 17 at noon.
