11/19/2004
MUNCIE, Ind. - The Marshall University women's swimming and diving team completed the first session of the Doug Coers Invitational Meet today on the campus of Ball State University.
In the 500-yard freestyle Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden), Renee Lambert (Morrelville, Tenn.), Danielle Chappelle (London, Ontario) and Ashley McIlvain (Brentwood, Tenn.) finished in the top four spots with times of 5:03.00, 5:10.87, 5:12.37 and 5:12.93, respectively.
The 400-yard medley relay team (Milla Kuurto, Nilsson, Emily Moe, Lambert) captured the top spot with a time of 3:59.68.
On the boards junior Casey Mulholland (Stone Mountain, Ga.) had the highest score in the 1-meter for the victory.
"I think we swam alright tonight," said Head Coach Leonard Kraus. "We did win three of the six events tonight so that sets us up going into tomorrow. I believe that sessions two and three will be better for us because we will be swimming in our stronger events."
The Doug Coers Invitational continues on Saturday with sessions two and three. Start time is set for 9 a.m.
