Marshall Awaits Morehead State's Lady Eagles
11/30/2004
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? The Marshall women?s basketball team will attempt to end a two-game losing streak when it plays host to the Morehead State Lady Eagles on Wednesday at the Cam Henderson Center. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
Royce Chadwick?s Marshall squad is coming off a forgettable weekend at Binghamton University?s Time Warner Classic in which it went 0-2 with losses versus the host Bearcats and Robert Morris University. The Thundering Herd (2-2) fell to BU by 25 points and let a slim halftime lead slip away before dropping a 59-53 contest to RMU.
Junior guard Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) paces the Herd with 13.3 points per game and sophomore forward Crystal Champion (Washington, D.C.) leads the Mid-American Conference in field goal percentage (75.0 percent). Shepard-Hall was named to the all-tournament team this past weekend, a week after Champion was named tournament MVP at the Fifth Third MU Classic, hosted by the Herd.
Morehead State (0-3) lost a pair of games in its last tournament at the Florida Atlantic Thanksgiving Classic. The Lady Eagles lost to James Madison and FAU after opening the season with a 16-point home loss to Wright State.
Marshall leads the all-time series with Morehead State, 20-18, and has won two straight over the Lady Eagles. MSU visited the Henderson Center just under a year ago (Dec. 5, 2003) and left with a 23-point loss. The Herd?s L?erin Scott (Georgetown, Ky.) set career highs with 10 points, six assists and three rebounds versus the Lady Eagles.
Wednesday?s game is the first of back-to-back home games versus teams from the state of Kentucky. Marshall will tangle with the UK Wildcats in its next contest, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. in Jam the Cam IV. Both games can be heard live on 88.1 WMUL-FM or via the world wide web at www.marshall.edu/wmul.
