YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Marshall University women's swimming and diving team was defeated on Saturday by Eastern Michigan 167-133 in the Jones Pool.
Leading the Herd was junior Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) who captured four first place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.16), the 100-yard butterfly (58.26), the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.28), and the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.79).
Senior Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) added three top finishes in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.19), the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.55) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:55.86).
In the distance events freshman Danielle Chappelle (London, Ontario) had the top spot in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:39.72.
Emily Moe (Jr., Rockford, Mich.) secured the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.09. Moe was also a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay team with Kuurto.
In diving junior Casey Mulholland (Stone Mountain, Ga.) placed second on the 3-meter boards (225.37) and third in the 1-meter event (243.22).
For the Eagles, Maddy Pilchard helped to lead EMU to victory with top finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.5) and the 50-yard freestyle (24.79). Pilchard also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.85) and the 400-freestyle relay (3:36.12).
The Herd will be on the road again next weekend when it travels to Buffalo and Akron on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
