12/2/2004
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University Women?s swimming and diving team will travel to Oxford, Ohio this weekend to compete in the 11th Annual Miami Invitational.
The Thundering Herd will face off against six other teams including host and defending champions the Miami Redhawks.
Last year at the Miami Invitational the Herd?s Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (54.54), setting a new Mid-American Conference record before breaking that time later at the MAC Championships with a time of 54.21. Kuurto also claimed the top spots in the 50-yard freestyle (24.14), the 100-yard backstroke (58.57) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.93).
The Herd is coming off of a second place overall finish at the Ball State Invitational, and wants to keep the momentum going into this weekend. In addition to Miami and Marshall, competing in the meet are Louisville, Cincinnati, OSU, Cleveland State, Kenyon, Johns Hopkins and Wheeling Jesuit.
The Invitational will start on Friday and finish on Sunday, with preliminaries starting at 9 a.m. each day and finals beginning at 6 p.m.
