ATHENS, Ohio - The Marshall University women's swimming and diving team fell to Ohio on Saturday afternoon by a score of 169-103.
Sophomore Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) led the Herd with first place finishes in all of her events: the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.56), the 100-yard freestyle (52.75) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.60). Kuurto also placed first in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:02.70) along with junior Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) and sophomores Liisa Raty (Espoo, Finland) and Emily Moe (Rockford, Mich.). Moe also placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.82) and 2nd in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.11).
"Emily Moe had an excellent weekend," said Marshall Head Coach Leonard Kraus, "we were short handed this weekend with some girls sick and she [Moe] really stepped up."
In diving action sophomore Casey Mulholland (Stone Mountain Ga.) placed first in both the 1-meter (239.63) and the 3-meter (251.33).
"These are some of the highest scores that Casey has had all season," said Kraus, "I couldn't be more proud of her."
The Bobcats were led by Shannon Kelly who posted first place finishes in the 400-yard medley relay (4:02.94), the 50-yard freestyle (24.37) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.43), and a second place finish in the 400-yard individual medley (4:31.47).
The Thundering Herd will be in action again on February 6 when they travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on the Ball State Cardinals. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
