Men's Basketball Travels To Kent State
2/17/2004
KENT, Ohio - After taking down the West Division leading Western Michigan Broncos Sunday, Marshall travels to Kent State, the East Division leaders, for a Mid-American Conference showdown at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center Wednesday evening.
The Herd has not won at Kent State since the 1968-69 season, a span of eight games. It is the only MAC road arena the Herd has not triumphed in since rejoining the league in 1997.
The Golden Flashes are in the midst of an eight game winning streak, with their last loss coming at Miami on January 14th, their only conference defeat of the season. The Flashes are 18-3 on the season, 12-1 in the MAC, and have not lost at home in league play this season. John Edwards, Kent State?s senior center, leads the team with 13.4 points per game. Eric Haut is next at 12.0 per contest, and DeAndre Haynes averages 10.2 points per game. Haynes also leads the MAC in assists with 5.62 per game.
In Marshall's last time out, The Herd beat the MAC?s West Division leader, Western Michigan, in overtime Sunday afternoon in the Henderson Center, 82-76. The Herd shot 53.1% from the floor, their best percentage of the year, and 80% from the free throw line to come away with the win. Marvin Black scored a career-high 30 points, while Tre Whitted, A.W. Hamilton, and LaVar Carter each added ten points. Black won MAC East Division Player of the Week for his efforts last week.
Kent State leads the all-time series, 28-21, and is undefeated against the Herd at home since Marshall reentered the MAC in 1997 (0-6). Altogether, Marshall has dropped eight straight at the M.A.C.C., with their last win coming in the 1968-69 season, 65-60. This will be the second meeting of the year between the Flashes and Herd, with Kent State winning the first meeting in Huntington, 63-61, on January 6th.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
