OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) led all Marshall swimmers on Saturday at the Mid-American Conference Championships by placing first in both the 100-yard freestyle (51.41) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.36).
Erika Nilsson (Jr., Haninge, Sweden) added a sixth place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.41.
Nilsson and Kuurto along with Michele Knicely (Fr., Bridgeport, W.Va.) and Cara Davison (Fr., Chesterton, Ind.) placed seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.42).
"We scored 57 more points in the championships this year," said Marshall University Head Coach Leonard Kraus, "so we're really excited about that. Our team just did a fantastic job this weekend. Milla [Kuurto] and Erika [Nilsson] really stepped up for us."
Marshall finished in ninth place overall, trailing Toledo by 15 points.
