- Box Score
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? The Marshall University softball team ran into a seasoned Wisconsin squad on Sunday morning and dropped the contest to the Badgers, 2-0, at Frost Stadium in the Frost Classic.
Marshall (6-7) scrambled for only three hits in the game as Wisconsin (14-4) won its eighth straight, including five in a row in the Frost Classic.
Three of UW?s losses come via ranked opponents as the Badgers dropped previous meetings to #1 UCLA, #14 LSU and #22 Arizona State while notching a win against #16 Big Ten rival Iowa this season.
Wisconsin scattered four hits through five innings, before Kris Zacher drove a Randi Nielson (Tucson, Ariz.) pitch screeching down the third base line for a triple in the detrimental sixth inning. Zacher reached home and the Badgers got on the board after another UW single to move the game to 1-0.
The Badgers padded their lead to 2-0, when Boo Gillette sent an RBI double to left field, scoring Wisconsin?s Samantha Polito.
Nielson moves to 4-2 on the season after striking out six and giving up seven hits for a complete game. UW?s Katie Lane is now 6-1 on the Badger mound.
Marshall will wrap up the Frost Classic with a dual against host-squad Chattanooga at 2:30 p.m.
