Softball Picked to Win MAC East Title and Tournament Championship

2/4/2004

CLEVELAND, Ohio ? The Marshall University softball team has been tabbed to win the East Division and the Mid-American Conference Tournament, league officials announced Tuesday.

MU, which returns 12 letter-winners from last year?s MAC regular-season championship
squad, was selected above Miami (Ohio) and Kent State by the league?s coaches.

Central Michigan was picked to grab the West Division title despite the graduation of 2003 MAC Player of the Year Michelle Brander.

The Herd brings back more all-conference players (six) than any other team in the league, including 2003 MAC Pitcher of the Year Randi Nielson (Tucson, Ariz.) and MAC Freshman of the Year Amanda Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.).

Marshall heads south to St. Augustine, Fla. for their first game of 2004 as the Herd battles the Salukis of Southern Illinois at 9 a.m. on Friday in the Triple Crown Collegiate Classic.
