3/17/2004
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall swimmer Milla Kuurto (So., Lohja, Finland) will be competing in the NCAA Championships held at Texas A&M, March 19-21.
Kuurto enters the NCAA Championships seeded 20th in the 100-yard butterfly and 36th in the 200-yard butterfly. Kuurto captured Mid-American Conference Championships in both events, setting a new MAC record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.21.
"We're excited about going," said Marshall University Head Coach Leonard Kraus, "it's a new experience for both of us. This is the biggest meet of the year, only upstaged by the Olympics this year. Some of the fastest swimmers in the world compete in the NCAAs."
Kuurto is the only Mid-American Conference swimmer to qualify for the championships. She will compete in the 100-yard butterfly on Friday and the 200-yard butterfly on Saturday.
