Tennis Travels to Buffalo and Akron

The Marshall University women?s tennis team will travel to Buffalo, NY, Friday to take on the Buffalo Bulls, and Akron, Ohio, Saturday to play the Akron Zips.
Buffalo goes into the match with a 7-6 overall record and is 0-4 in the MAC. UB dropped both of its MAC road matches last weekend. The Bulls suffered a tough 4-3 loss to Northern Illinois and were shut out at the end of the week by Western Michigan. The Marshall-UB match will take place at the Ellicott Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m.
The Herd will then go on to play against the Zips at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at the Latuchic Tennis Center. Akron is 7-8 on the season and 0-4 in the MAC. Akron is also seeking to rebound from a pair of MAC losses to Western Michigan and Northern Illinois.
Akron?s number one singles player, senior Irina Strembitsky is currently ranked 100th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles poll. The Zip senior is currently undefeated in singles action with a record of 13-0. Strembitsky?s last victory was over Western Michigan?s Frederika Girdsang, who is the defending 2003 Mac Player-of-the year.
Marshall is going into these matches with a five match winning streak and a 13-3 overall record.
In the Herd?s last outing, the Herd downed 59th ranked Middle Tennessee State, 4-3, with strong singles play.
In MAC action MU is undefeated and has not dropped a conference match in 12 attempts. The Herd?s double team has clinched the doubles point 14 out of 16 times. The number one doubles team, senior Jessica Johnson (Sewickly, Pa.) and junior Ashley Kroh (Louisville, Ky.) are ranked 16th in the nation. The Marshall team is ranked 48th, marking the team?s highest ranking in school history.
