FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- After dropping an eleven-inning drama in game one, 1-0, the Marshall University softball team was able to take the series finale, 3-0, at Lady 'Back Yard on Saturday.

Game One: Arkansas 1, Marshall 0

In a game that extended to Saturday after bad weather postponed the game after a 0-0 tie in the sixth inning on Friday, Arkansas' Candice Swan delivered the only RBI of the contest in the eleventh frame to give the Razorbacks the win, 1-0.

The international tiebreaker rule allotted a UA runner on second and Marshall (25-18) intentionally walked Kallie Foglesong to put runners at first and second. A crafty defensive move by the Herd caught a Razorback trying to advance to third and the next batter was then intentionally walked again to help push a force at third with one out.

Swan then singled to left field to bring home one and give the win to Arkansas (14-29).

MU pitcher Randi Nielson (Tucson, Ariz.) put on another great showing, pitching nearly ten innings and giving up only six hits in the venue. The junior is now 11-9 on the Herd mound.

Heather Schlitman (12-18) performed extremely well herself, striking out 16 batters and giving only four hits and no runs to a strong MU hitting corps.

Sarah Wilson (Washington, W.Va.) had a double while Leigh Wintter (Acworth, Ga.) had two hits.

Game Two: Marshall 3, Arkansas 0

Amanda Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) had her third home run of the year and Marshall picked up win number 25 as they dropped Arkansas, 3-0, in game two on Saturday.

Marshall put up three runs in three separate innings, as A. Williams homered in the first, Courtney Kacenga (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) singled and scored in the third and Sara Spenia (Las Vegas, Nev.) punched in a RBI single in the fourth.

Davenport and Spenia combined for five of the Herd's seven hits in the contest with three and two apiece, respectively.

Abigail Harter (Monmouth, Oreg.) got the win on the mound while scattering four hits and no runs. The lefthander moves to 5-7 in 2004.

The Herd returns to Ohio University on Wednesday with a single game venture in Athens. The game begins at 3 p.m.
