BOWLING GREEN, Ohio ? Freshman Herd forward Kassie Hollman (Marietta, Ga.) netted her first collegiate goal, but the Marshall women?s soccer team was only able to muster a tie against Bowling Green, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon in Bowling Green in Mid-American Conference action.

BGSU (1-6-1, 0-1-1 MAC) struck first as Kristy Coppes, the MAC leader in points and goals, tallied a score with under ten minutes remaining in the first half.

At 65:05, Hollman took a pass from fellow MU freshman Mollie Lee (Leawood, Kan.) for the tie. The double overtime match was the third for the Herd this season.

?It was awesome to get my first goal, but I would?ve been much happier with a better outcome,? Hollman said. ?We?re coming around offensively?I believe we are getting a little better every time we step on the field."

Head coach Chris Kane likes the improvement, but is still searching for more.

?We?re happy we didn?t lose, but we are certainly disappointed we didn?t win,? Kane said. ?Ties are just not going to cut it if we want to make it to the tournament.?

Marshall (2-4-3, 0-3-1 MAC) was outshot by the Falcons 16-9.

?We played well enough to win,? Kane said. ?We just made too many mistakes?their goal in the first half was a bad defensive play by us. We had a couple of chances to put it away?we?re playing better?we just need to continue to fight.?

For Marshall, senior goalie Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, N.Y.) had four saves before being injured in the second half. Kai Nordness (Burnsville, Minn.) stepped in and picked up a save without giving up a goal in nearly 50 minutes of work. BGSU?s Ali Shingler had three stops in the tie.

The Herd takes a short break from MAC play when it visits the University of Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday, Sept. 24.

?It?s going to be great to have a little breather from conference play,? Hollman said. ?We?re going to have the opportunity to work some kinks out before we hit up the second half of MAC action.?

MU returns to MAC play on Sunday, Sept. 26, with a game versus the Akron Zips.
