BALTIMORE, Md. ? Ashleigh Woods (Penfield, N.Y.) became the Marshall women?s soccer all-time leader in shutouts and the Herd escaped from a five-game skid when it took down University of Maryland-Baltimore County, 2-0, on Friday night.

Marshall (3-4-3) and UMBC were locked at zeros at the half, before the Herd was able to ignite its offense in the second period. Mollie Lee (Leawood, Kan.) tallied a goal for the first score of the contest and Katie Watson (Woodbridge, Va.) followed up with an assist to Jenna Greenwood (Westerville, Ohio) to seal the victory.

?We came out inspired in the second half after a lackluster first period,? head coach Chris Kane said. ?We played with a lot of energy and put together two really nice goals.?

UMBC (4-4-0) out-shot Marshall 11-7 in the match.

Woods, who now has 9.5 shutouts in her career and surpasses Kayla Johnson on the all-time list, had seven saves in the win.

?It?s definitely great to get the win,? Woods said. ?It?s awesome to see the offense getting it done again and the shutout was obviously big too. It?s one down and one to go this weekend?Sunday is a big game for us.?

Kane said the hefty road trip was well worth it.

?We came all the way here for one game, got the win, and I think it will pay off,? he said. ?Ashleigh (Woods) had an amazing save to preserve the shutout and I believe our offense really got back on track tonight.?

The win comes after the Herd went 0-4-1 in the past five meetings.

MU now turns its attention back to the conference as it welcomes Mid-American Conference rival Akron to Sam Hood Field on Sunday at 1 p.m.
