HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - In 2003-04, first-year head coach Ron Jirsa took on the Mid-American Conference's toughest schedule. In his second season, the Thundering Herd's schedule is much like his first year with Marshall, only this time, some of the Herd's more difficult opponents come to Huntington.

All in all, the Herd will face eight teams that made the postseason last year, including four that appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2003-04.

"We're excited about bringing in good teams to the Henderson Center for our fans to get excited about the game of college basketball," said Jirsa.

The non-conference schedule is highlighted by home games with Southern Conference Champion East Tennessee State on November 23rd and Sweet 16 participant UAB on December 4th in Huntington at the Cam Henderson Center, a road game with Elite Eight team Xavier in Cincinnati at the Cintas Center on December 30th, and the Herd's annual game with intrastate rival West Virginia on January 11th in Charleston, W.Va., at the Civic Center. Other non-conference games include return trips to UNC-Wilmington on November 19th, Illinois State on December 11th, and Western Kentucky on December 18th to close out home-and-home arrangements, and a neutral site game with the Oregon Ducks in Charleston at the Civic Center. The game with the Ducks, slated for November 27th, is the last game of a neutral site-for-neutral site agreement after the Herd played in Oregon's Pape Jam at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon, in 2003-04. Marshall also takes on High Point in Huntington on December 21st.

The Herd's last go-around in the Mid-American Conference is once again tough, with home games against Central Michigan on January 2nd, Bowling Green on January 6th, Toledo on January 15th, Akron on January 19th, Kent State on February 1st, Eastern Michigan on February 9th, Buffalo on February 23rd, Ohio on February 26th, and Miami on March 5th. Three out of Marshall's last four games of the season take place in the friendly confines of the Henderson Center.

Eastern Michigan is the MAC West Division team slated to take on Marshall twice in 2004-05. The Herd begins conference play against the Eagles in Ypsilanti, Mich., on November 30th.

The Herd opens its season with exhibition games against West Virginia Tech on November 6th and Glenville State on November 11th in the Henderson Center.

"Our schedule is always going to be tough," said Jirsa. "This year we have a little more flow to our schedule compared to last year, and a little more consistency. We're excited."
