Marshall Men Head To Charleston For Toyota Capital Classic

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The battle for the state of West Virginia takes place Tuesday evening at the Charleston Civic Center when the Herd takes on West Virginia in the Toyota Capital Classic.
West Virginia enters Tuesday?s game with an 11-1 overall record, with their only loss coming in their Big East opener at Villanova on January 5th. The Mountaineers shoot 47.9 percent from the floor, and are one of the nation?s best teams when it comes to turnover margin (+4.6). Senior Tyrone Sally leads WVU in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per game. Mike Gansey averages 11.8 points per contest, and D?or Fischer adds 10.8 points per game to close out the Mountaineers? double-digit scorers. Gansey leads WVU on the boards, averaging 6.7 caroms per contest.
In WVU's last time out, West Virginia won its first Big East Conference game of the 2004-05 season, knocking off St. John?s at home on January 8th, 64-60. Center D?or Fischer led the Mountaineer effort against the Red Storm with 18 points on six-of-eight shooting. Mike Gansey scored 12 points and Johannes Herber tallied ten points in WVU?s winning effort.
The Herd enters the game 2-10 after dropping a 77-68 decision to the Ohio Bobcats on Sunday.
Freshman Joe Miles (Forestville, Md.) leads three Marshall players averaging double-figures at 14.3 points per game. Junior center Mark Patton (Barboursville, W.Va.) adds 11.8 per contest, while senior forward David Anderson (Levittown, P.R.) pours in 10.0 points per game.
West Virginia leads the all-time series between the two schools, 24-8, and have won the last two meetings and seven out of the last eight. WVU also has a 13-2 advantage in Charleston, with Marshall?s only wins coming in 1995-95 and 2001-02. The game has been played annually at the Charleston Civic Center since the 1991-92 campaign.
The game can be seen live on Capital Classic Television Network in the state of West Virginia. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
