Akron Visits Marshall Men Wednesday Night

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Thundering Herd look for their first win in the Mid-American Conference when Akron visits the Cam Henderson Center on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Akron enters Wednesday?s game with a 9-5 overall record, 3-3 in Mid-American Conference play, with all of their conference wins coming on their home floor at James A. Rhodes Arena. For the year, the Zips are 7-0 at the J.A.R. Darryl Peterson leads Akron, averaging 15.6 points per game with Romeo Travis also averaging in double-digits at 10.3 points per contest. Akron?s second leading scorer, Jeremiah Wood, injured his knee in the Zips? game against Ohio and is out for the season.
The Herd enters the game 3-11 overall, 0-5 in the Mid-American Conference, and lost its last time out against Toledo, 83-74, on Saturday evening. Marshall fell down by 18 points on four different occasions in the first half, but made the game interesting in the second half, cutting the Rocket lead to two points before Toledo put the game away with clutch offensive rebounding and three-point shooting. The Rockets shot 56% from the floor, 46.2% from three, and 72.4% from the free-throw line in the victory. A.W. Hamilton (Georgetown, Ky.) scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Thundering Herd. Keith Triplett led Toledo with 22 points.
Freshman Joe Miles (Forestville, Md.) continues to lead the Herd in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per contest. Junior center Mark Patton (Barboursville, W.Va.) is the other Herd player averaging double-digit points at 11.4 points per game.
Marshall leads the all-time series, 11-7, with both teams winning on their home floor in 2003-04. Since re-entering the league in 1997-98, the Herd is 6-5 against the Zips and 4-1 in the friendly confines of the Henderson Center.
