MAC Play Continues For Marshall Men Thursday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Thundering Herd hosts Bowling Green on Thursday night in the Cam Henderson Center at 7 p.m.
Bowling Green enters tonight?s game with a 7-2 record and 1-0 in the Mid-American Conference after defeating East Division preseason favorite Buffalo Sunday in Anderson Arena, 95-88. The Falcons are led by the MAC?s leading scorer, Josh Almanson, who averages 19.1 points per game. John Reimold, the MAC?s leading three-point shooter at 47.9%, is next at 15.3 points per game, and Steven Wright adds 14.4 points per game.
Marshall is 2-8 overall, 0-2 in the MAC after an 88-83 loss to Central Michigan Sunday in the Henderson Center. The Herd has dropped seven straight, and is 0-2 in the MAC for the first time since re-entering the conference in 1997-98.
Freshman Joe Miles (Forestville, Md.) leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per contest, and has scored in double-digits in every game so far in 2004-05, including a career-high 21 points against Central Michigan. Miles? double-digit scoring streak is believed to be the longest for a Marshall freshman to start the season in the modern era of Marshall basketball. Miles is the league's leading freshman scorer, and ranks 11th overall in the MAC at 14.5 points per game. Junior center Mark Patton (Barboursville, W.Va.) also adds 11.6 per contest, while senior forward David Anderson (Levittown, Puerto Rico) pours in 10.7 points per game. Both Patton and Anderson are working off of double-doubles they garnered against Central Michigan on Sunday.
Marshall enteres the contest hampered by injury; junior forward LaVar Carter (Louisville, Ky.) is doubtful after suffering a concussion against the Chippewas, while sophomore guard Tre Whitted (Wilmington, N.C.) is probable because of a right leg injury.
Bowling Green leads the all-time series, 29-23, but Marshall leads the all-time series in Huntington, 15-11. In the Henderson Center, the series is knotted at 3 wins apiece. The first meeting between the Falcons and Herd took place in the 1953-54 season, when Marshall defeated Bowling Green, 91-87, in Huntington.
