Women's Soccer Signs Seven Student-Athletes
2/11/2005
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. ? Marshall University women?s soccer head coach Chris Kane has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Justine Clarke, Courtney Hoover, Jessica Jennings, Erin Johnson, Stephanie Kot, Ali Lizotte and Aimee Wiese have all signed to play for the Thundering Herd starting in the 2005 season.
Kane is pleased with his second recruiting class at Marshall and realizes the impact they need to have as the Thundering Herd moves to Conference USA next season.
?This class is one of the most complete in our program?s history,? Kane said. ?We targeted student-athletes who are going to help Marshall to become one of the top programs in Conference USA. These young women come from program?s that excel at the highest levels in high school and club soccer. We expect them to bring that same winning attitude with them this August.?
Justine Clarke/6-0/GK/MF/Stockton, N.J.
A four-year letter winner from Stockton, N.J., Clarke was an All-Conference choice her senior year as a midfielder. A versatile athlete, Clarke plays goalkeeper for the Jersey Knights and coach Jeff Zaun during club season.
?Justine has only been playing keeper the last two years, however she is an extremely athletic individual,? Kane said. ?She has a tremendous amount of potential and should compete immediately for playing time this fall, either in the goal or in the midfield.?
Courtney Hoover/5-9/MF/DEF/Warwick, N.Y.
Hoover, a native of Warwick, N.Y., is a versatile 5?9? player that can play anywhere on the field for the Herd. While at Warwick Valley, she was a three-year starter and all- area selection. She is a member of the Eastern New York ODP team and is a product of the Eastchester Patriots and club coach Steve Davis.
?Courtney is a strong, athletic player whose versatility will help us anywhere on the field. She is a very coachable individual who constantly strives to be better.?
Jessica Jennings/5-7/F/Dayton, Ohio
Jennings is a product of the four-time state champion Dayton Soccer Academy and coach Tim Lesiak?s regional semi-finalist Ohio Elite. She comes to Marshall via Dayton, Ohio, and Carroll High School, where she was an all-league and all-area performer as well as an honor student. She is a member of the Ohio South ODP team.
?Jessica is an extremely athletic individual with a nose for the goal,? Kane said. ?Her passion for the game and her winning pedigree will make an immediate impact on our program as we move into Conference USA. She is one of the most exciting players to watch in any game she is playing.?
Erin Johnson/5-5/F/MF/Mansfield, Ohio
Johnson, a Lexington High School four-year varsity athlete, was a member of the 2001 Ohio Final Four squad. She was a three-time all-league selection, two-time all-district selection, Offensive Player of the Year, and an Academic All-Ohio honoree. Johnson is a member of Ohio Premier Soccer Club and won consecutive Ohio State Cups from 2002 to 2004. She has also participated in ODP with Ohio North.
?Erin is a scrappy player who can get it done in the midfield or up top,? Kane said. ?She is very deceptive on the field and has a remarkable understanding of the game. She will excel both on the field and in the classroom, where she will be a John Marshall Scholar.?
Stephanie Kot/5-11/D/Lindenhurst, N.Y.
A Lindenhurst, N.Y., native, Kot is a four-time captain and soccer MVP at St. John the Baptist High School, where she also ran track. She was twice named All-Long Island and all-league. The 5?11? defender plays club for the Rockville Center Hotshots and coach Tim Bradbury. She is a member of the Eastern New York ODP team and has participated in the prestigious Penn Relays in the 4x400 relay.
?Stephanie is a fantastic central defender who will compete immediately for playing time and help sure-up our back line,? Kane said. ?She brings a warrior-like mentality to everything she does and never shies away from aggressive play on the field.?
Ali Lizotte/5-6/D/MF/Elgin, S.C.
Lizotte joins Herd sophomore Kate Heilich as MU?s second player from South Carolina. She is a two-time all-region selection that was named region Player of the Year last season. Lizotte is currently in her senior season at Spring Valley High School where she is a captain and two-time Offensive Player of the Year. She has participated in South Carolina and Region III ODP and plays for coach Andrew Hyslop?s state champion Carolina Elite Soccer Academy that will take on the Herd in Huntington on April 9th.
?Ali brings a passion for the game and a ?whatever it takes? attitude to our program,? Kane said. ?Her experience at the club and ODP levels along with her desire will give Ali the opportunity to compete for a starting position immediately, either at outside back or in the midfield.?
Amy Wiese/5-11/GK/Maitland, Fla.
Wiese will be the second Herd goalkeeper from the Sunshine State, joining fellow Florida native Emily Fedeles. Wiese made the transition from sweeper to goalie during her sophomore year at Orlando Edgewater High School, managing a 0.2 GAA in her final three campaigns. In her career, she notched 25 shutouts and was nationally ranked for shutout wins en route being named to All-Metro and All-County teams in 2003. Wiese plays club for the regionally ranked Indialantic Force and coach Fidgi Haig.
?Aimee is new to the position of goalkeeper but can easily be called a natural between the pipes,? Kane said. ?Her athletic ability, instincts on the field, and her competitiveness will make her one of the better goalkeepers Marshall has ever seen. She should compete for the starting role immediately.?
