BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. - The Thundering Herd got back on the winning track Monday afternoon with a 7-0 win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in women's tennis action at the Huntington Tennis Club.

Marshall had lost its last three matches to ranked opponents before Monday's win against EKU to even out its season record at 4-4.

The Herd picked up the doubles point by winning all three matches to jump out to the early 1-0 edge in the match. At No. 1, Joelle Good (Zurich, Switzerland) and Jeanne Schwartz (West Palm Beach, Fla.), were victorious, 8-4. Danielle Hock (Wigan, England) and Shannon Brown (Overland Park, Kan.) marched to an 8-0 win at No. 2 and Alizee Paradis (Quebec City, Can.) and Lille Nzudie (Duoala, Cameroon) were winners in the No. 3 spot, 8-2.

Marshall sealed the deal early with three quick singles wins. Freshmen Schwartz and Paradis were dominant at No. 4 and No. 5 singles picking up 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-0 wins respectively. Hock was next in line to clinch the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Lindsay Herrera to spoil the Colonels' recipe for an upset.

The Herd wrapped up wins at No. 1 and No. 6 without much problem. Nzudie defeated Meredith Giles, 6-0, 6-2 at No.1 and Holly Asel (Leawood, Kansas) picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win from the No. 6 slot.

Good fought out a three-set win at No. 3, 5-7, 7-6, 6-4 to wrap up the 7-0 final score.

Marshall avoided its first four match losing streak since the 2003 season with the win.

The Thundering Herd will be back in action Friday and Sunday at the Huntington Tennis Club with matches against Middle Tennessee State and Penn State. The MTSU match begins Friday at 5 p.m. and the PSU bout begins at 10 a.m. Sunday.
