HUNTINGTON, W.VA. ? Several awards were distributed at the second annual Marshall women?s soccer banquet held at the Marshall Hall of Fame Caf? on Feb. 12.
Voted on by the coaching staff, Ashleigh Woods was handed out the Leadership Award while Jessie Crawford and Jaime Gruber shared the Heart and Soul Award.
Megan Jenkins garnered the Unsung Hero and Defensive MVP accolades while senior Ellerie Karl picked up her third consecutive Player of the Year nod. Freshmen ran the table otherwise as Kate Heilich (Hustle Award), Jenna Greenwood (Offensive MVP) and Sara Burdick (Newcomer of the Year) were all recognized. The latter six awards were voted on by the players, along with the Fan of the Year award, which went to Dick Gruber.
The squad was also recognized for its achievement off the field as it was awarded the NSCAA Team Academic Award with a 3.3 gpa as a team. 19 players were also placed on the Buck Harless Student Athlete Honor Roll with a gpa of 3.0 or better during the fall.
?It was a great evening to acknowledge those that worked so hard this fall and to honor our three seniors one last time,? head coach Chris Kane said. ?It is also positive to see our players consistently achieving in the classroom.?
