LAS VEGAS, Nev. ? Marshall picked up its second win of the year late Friday night when it dropped Utah State, 3-2, at Jim Rodgers Field on the campus of UNLV.
Amanda Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) singled and Jessica Williams (Powder Springs, Ga.) advanced on an error to put runners on first and third for the Herd?s Rachel Folden (Baldwin Park, Calif.). Folden sent a shot into left field scoring and A. Williams and registering the first run of the game. J. Williams would get caught stealing home and Sam Rodriguez (Oakley, Calif.) walked before Leigh Wintter (Acworth, Ga.) hit a two-RBI double to the fence for a 3-0 Marshall win.
Folden tallied her second hit of the game and second double of the tournament in the bottom of the third.
The Aggies put together two runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Abigail Harter (Monmouth, Ore.) had a big night on the mound for Marshall (2-0). The sophomore lefthander went the distance for the Herd giving up six hits and striking out four.
Jessica Garnett took the loss for Utah State (0-2).
?It?s great to go 2-0 on any given day,? head coach Shonda Stanton said. ?But the this game is a little disappointing because it was not a full seven inning effort?a great start but we didn?t put it together at the end.?
The Herd plays Cal State-Northridge at 3:45 p.m. PST tomorrow.
