Nilsson Named to Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior swimmer Erika Nilsson (Haninge, Sweden) was named to the 2005 Academic All Mid-American Conference team on Tuesday.
At the 2005 MAC Championships Nilsson captured the victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:52.95, setting a new Marshall record. She also finished third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.67) and in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:01.61) which also set a new Marshall record.
A marketing major at Marshall, this is Nilsson's third consecutive year on the Academic All-MAC team. Nilsson also received first team All-MAC accolades for her performances at the MAC Championships and throughout the season.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled both in competion and in academics. In order to qualify a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for their specific sport. First-year students are not eligible for the award. The team is selected by the faculty athletic representatives from each school that sponsors women's swimming and diving.
