3/18/2005
LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Milla Kuurto (Lohja, Finland) competed in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle on Fri. at the NCAA Championships.
Kuurto finished 25th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.61. She placed 56th in the 200-yard freestyle swimming a time of 1:52.00. She entered the events seeded 26th and 63rd, respectively.
"It was good to see Milla improve on her times," said Marshall University Head Coach Leonard Kraus. "We were able to move up a few spots from last year and from the seeding, so that was good. Unfortunately we were not able to get as high of a finish as we would have liked. Now we just go back and train some more and be ready to come back again next year."
The junior swimmer had a successful season for the Thundering Herd, setting several new Marshall records and being the only Mid-American Conference swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Kuurto received First Team All-MAC honors for her accomplishments in the pool.
