4/1/2005
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ? The Marshall women?s golf team returns to action at this weekend?s Indiana Invitational to be held at the par-72, 6,142-yard Indiana University Golf Club. The April 2-3 tournament marks the 22nd year the Hoosiers have played host to the event.
Marshall is now with the services of 2004 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year Allyson Hatcher (Wheeling, W.Va.), who is returning after missing the Herd?s first three tournaments of the spring due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The second team all-MAC selection led MU with a scoring average of 76.42 during the fall season. Fellow sophomore Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio) has led the Herd?s spring charge with a 76.78 average and three top-10 finishes.
Marshall last played in its own Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate in Citrus Springs, Fla., on March 21-22. The Herd placed second with Churchill finishing in a tie for sixth place.
The Indiana Invitational consists of three rounds, with 36 holes played on Saturday followed by the final 18 holes on Sunday. Each day of competition will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The Thundering Herd is one of 19 teams in the field, joining IU, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley, Illinois, Iowa, IPFW, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio, St. John?s, Toledo, Arkansas-Little Rock, Indianapolis, Wisconsin and Xavier.
Scoring for the event will be six players, with the low four scores from each team for each round being counted. Marshall?s lineup features a slew of sophomores in Hatcher, Churchill, Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.), Meredith Crislip (Parkersburg, W.Va.), Stacy Wagner (Harmony, Pa.), along with freshman Whitney Wolejko (Hatfield, Mass.).
