Hawkins earns top-10 spot as Herd finishes 3rd in Duquesne’s event at Sewickley Heights
SEWICKLEY, Pa. – Marshall senior Madison Borders continued her strong fall showing this week, earning a 4th-place finish at the Golf Galaxy Collegiate, hosted by Duquesne at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
The Herd had a pair of top-10 finishers as Savannah Hawkins put together a strong final round as well to earn 10th place in the 54-hole event.
As a team, Marshall finished third in the tournament.
Borders' 4th-place finish came on the heels of consistent play throughout the 54 holes of action.
The Bardstown, Ky., native particularly made moves on the par-5, 14th where she eagled in the first round and birdied in the final two rounds, helping propel her to the top-5 finish – her second of the fall.
While Borders was able to consistently stay atop the standings at the Golf Galaxy Collegiate throughout the week, Hawkins made a final day surge that included four birdies in her final round to earn the 10th place finish.
For the second day in a row, Hawkins birdied the short par-4, 3rd hole and added a pair of birdies on par-5s – Nos. 6 and 14 – before closing out her round with a birdie on the 18th to put her in solo possession of a 10th place finish.
Marshall now takes some time off before returning to the course Oct. 19-20 for the UNCG Fall Invitational – the team's final tournament of the fall season.
