4/15/2005
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head men?s basketball coach Ron Jirsa has announced the signing of guard Chris Ross (San Antonio, Texas) to a National Letter of Intent.
Ross, a 6?2 point guard, comes to Huntington from McClennan Junior College in San Antonio, and will have two years of eligibility for the Thundering Herd beginning in the fall of 2005.
Ross averaged 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 3.6 steals per game last season at McClennan Junior College. As a freshman, Ross played at Panola Junior College in Carthage, Texas, and averaged 13 points and ten assists, which ranked second in the country in the Basketball I Junior College statistics. Many in Texas also remember his 50-foot, double-clutch, buzzer-beating shot that won a 5A state championship for his San Antonio Jay High School team as a junior in 2002.
?Chris has a high level of quickness and is a tenacious defender,? said Jirsa. ?He was one of the nation?s leaders in assists at the junior college level, and is a tremendous open court player.?
