Men?s Basketball Adds Another Signee

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall head men?s basketball coach Ron Jirsa has announced the signing of guard Chris Williams (Long Beach, Calif.) to a National Letter of Intent. Williams joins guard Chris Ross (San Antonio, Tex.) in the Herd?s spring signing class.
Williams, a 6?2 scoring guard, hails from Fullerton College in Fullerton, California. Williams, like Ross, will have two years of eligibility for the Thundering Herd beginning in the fall of 2005.
The Long Beach Calif., native averaged 18.1 points, six rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game at the two guard position for Fullerton College as a sophomore.
?Chris Williams is a quick scoring guard,? said Jirsa. ?He can go by people on the dribble, but also keep them honest with a very good three-point shot.?
?Chris is a very athletic scorer and is very explosive,? said Jerry Mullens, editor of the Mullens Roundball Review, a prominent junior college recruiting service. ?He can score off of the bounce, and is really talented. He should be an impact player at Marshall.?
In a weekend?s work, the Herd has shored up a backcourt that lost three players, Enoch Bunch, Ronny Dawn, and A.W. Hamilton, to graduation this spring.
?This is a quick backcourt with scoring ability,? said Jirsa. ?Both players have the skills and ability level to get past their initial defender and explode to the basket.?
